Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre - Orange County Resort Hampi

If you've been following my Travel Blog, you'll know that I recently visited Orange County Resort in Hampi. While I wrote the hotel's review on that blog, one of the important aspects of the hotel - the Vaidyasala - the spa is being reviewed here!
The Vaidyasala is handled by Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre from Mysore and the staff are trained there and the raw materials come from there! Here at Orange County Resort, 2 types of services are provided - Rejuvenation Therapy and Beauty Therapy. There are 11 Rejuvenation therapies and 4 Beauty therapies. As soon as you enter, you're given a refreshing Sarsaparilla (nannari) Sarbath drink.
There is a separate room for beauty therapies with 4 different equipment! There are 4 different massage rooms and each is painted with a mural just like the rest of the hotel!
Of the Rejuvenation therapies there are 2 full body massages while the rest concentrate on certain body parts. While my guy took up Abhyanga, I took up Shirobhyanga and Padabhyanga. All the massages begin with a prayer by the masseurs and we're given a change of outfit. Men are given a cotton muslin loin cloth, and women are given a similar cotton muslin bikini set!

Abhyanga is an hour long full body massage where 2 masseurs work in a synchronized way! It begins with head, neck attended by 1 person and feet attended by the 2nd. The massage continues to the whole body. Later he was shifted to a teak wood cot. The teak wood cot was again custom made with a single piece of wood! Depending on your comfort level, you could lay down directly on the teak wood (which btw feels fantastic) or have a mattress laid atop the cot! Leg, chest, back massages are done in the laying position. It continues with a sauna box which is also made of teak wood. The whole thing wraps up a shower!
Shirobhyanga is a head and neck massage while Padabhyanaga is a foot and leg massage! Yeah, I've almost dozed off half way through the massage!!!
Each room is separate and has the facility to massage only one person. So even if you go as a couple, you're in separate rooms. Men massage for the men and women massage for the women. All the massage rooms face a small open sky waterbody on one side. But don't worry, the architecture is so fantastic that even if its open sky, it isn't visible from any of the terraces of the resort!
After the massage, a warm ginger tea is given and we're let to sip it in front of that waterbody from the main lobby! There are a couple of turtles and several lotuses here and its such a pleasure to watch them!!! Once in a while, a good massage like this is so damn necessary to get that utmost relaxation from our busy lives... Totally worth it!
P.S: I was invited by Orange County Resort for review purposes. However all the views are my own and this post does not advertise the product!!

  9. The place looks lovely and luxurious! You seemed to be very pampered there. Good service, must be high-priced? Sometimes it's also the ambiance aside from the services we get that makes a spa salon worthwhile. Indus Valley seemed to meet both requirements well.

  10. Oh my. Your post made me want to have a massage too! Looking at the pictures, I can see that the place promotes relaxation. I am a bit worried about the open sky. If it can't be seen by tall building surrounding it, I guess it's okay. It's a beautiful place, if I may add. :)

  12. It must be such a pleasurable treat to get a massage here! Not only does the architecture look magical and serene, but the fact that the massages begin with a prayer makes the whole experience more spiritual! Everything looks so soothing... and plus points for being able to watch the turtles and lotuses for added serenity!

  14. The place looks magnificent! I love how the rooms are furnished and decorated. According to pictures, the staff is really professional, which is expected if you take into consideration how extraordinary the entire place is. The best part to me is the tea drinking and staying in a lobby. The picture is awesome. I would love to try all the massages you talked about.

  15. I must say this place looks so different from the massage centers that I've been to. It's like the kind of massage fit for a royalty. I am a fan of massage therapy so this is all fascinating to me. I would love to check it out and experience it myself.

  18. OMG Massage....I want one. Love that you mentioned murals. Seems that the massage practice there is also spiritual in some way as you said that they say prayers too. I wonder what they pray about.
