Happy New Years 2016

This New Years is new to me, first of all, coz I'm in this new country, United Kingdom. Like every New Years when I put up a special post, this time, I'm ditching my multitudes of colors for a day for a super elegant look with just black. No, its not a resolution. You'll continue to see my multi-colors. Just today, its back to basics!!!

This time with a Parisian chic, rocking a floppy hat!!! Also this time, its all about time, coz the location here is Greenwich! Coming back soon with the post on Greenwich in My Travelogue. I know, the above pic looks almost too perfect and photoshopped, but no, it isn't. It had just drizzled and the street and trees were wet and being a weekday, the place wasn't very crowded and I could get my perfect shot.

In my background in the above pic is the Royal Observatory. As much as I love my chunky & quirky jewelry, I also love my elegant pieces. There are times when I prefer to wear chic outfits with elegant, simple, delicate jewelry.

When it comes to delicate jewelry, I do have a penchant to choose pieces that are a mix of Gold & Silver or Gold & Copper and so. You may remember my good old Titan Raga watch that has its strap with alternating units of Yellow Gold & Silver colors.

Recently I came across this gorgeous set of jewelry by Buckley London called Russian Sparkle Trio Set with has Yellow Gold, Rose Gold and Silver plating on its Sterling Silver jewelry set. A bit of sparkle with the stones on the Silver part is the topping on the cake! The quality is just impeccable with strong closures.

The packaging is super adorable. The jewelry are fixed in its suitable internal packs. The outer region of the box has the brand name and on one side is super cure satin ribbon that is shaped like a handle and these little jewelry boxes look like little suitcases!!! Its that moment, when you look at sometime and say 'awwww...'. And the best part, the jewelry come with a 2 years warranty, that's international!!!

Every year, on new year's I put up a unique, different post or shared a news. Last year it was this, and the prev. year it was this. This year???? Well............ Surprise!!!!!!! I GOT INKED!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah - my first tattoo.....

First about the studio - I got it done from this place called Talisman Tattoo in Chennai. Its a one man army, run by Mr.Amarnath. This guy has been a tattooist since 2006 and he began Talisman in 2010.

Talk of fate, he studied to be an interior designer. On his vacation to Thailand, he spotted a tattoo course and took it up just for fun!!! The actual education is now just done for friends for the fun on it, and the fun course he took up in a vacation became his profession!!!

The equipment and ink are imported from Thailand. The needles are opened in front of the client, so you can be sure its sterile. The machinery are sterilized in these steamers at high temperature.

As I kept thinking about the pain, I thought why aren't they using local anesthesia and I asked him about that. He said that it makes the skin a bit tough and ink penetration becomes difficult. However it is used if the design is too big and if the client's pain is too much towards completion.

Ofcourse, he flaunts his own list of celebrity clientele - Dr.Priya Selvaraj, Southern film actors Janani Iyer, Sripriya, Aishwarya (Lakshmi's daughter), Vanitha Vijayakumar, Lissy Priyadarshan, quite a few tamil serial actors etc.

Most often than not, his clients aren't drop-in clients. Usually an e-mail or FB conversation or a couple of meet-ups with the clients and the design is finalized. You can go there with just an idea which you can explain in words, or if you've seen a design that inspires you, you could take that too. He does drawings & sketches for his clients till they're pleased with the output before going onto the skin. Does he have a tattoo on him???? He's still in the process of perfecting and expanding his design day by day!

Presently he also conducts classes for tattooing. Its a 3 weeks course. However he just doesn't train anyone who drops by, he makes sure you have the panache, the attitude for it.

Here are some of his designs that I liked the most! The Tweety in the 2nd pic is actually a cover-up of a scar! The Leaf & Dreamcatcher are done mostly with dots for shading like pointillism!!! And the shading effect on the Sai Baba and the Iron Shield are more than awesome - I luuuuurve it!!!!

And what did I get done?????? Yeah! My guy's name..... :) :) :) I designed it with some symbols that mean something to me - a little ying-yang, a couple of flying swallows & butterflies, a few stars & comets (if you've watched Game Of Thrones, you'll know what 'My sun & stars' mean!!!), a dream-catcher & flower buds.... How's it?????

Ever wondered the science behind tattooing? Check out this video. Btw, here are a couple tips from my personal experience, if you're planning your first tattoo - think about the design 100 times, its gonna be with you lifetime; do not have your first tattoo till atleast you're 25, a big no-no in your teens coz your profession may have rules regarding tattoos; pain is more than waxing underarm; pain is lesser wherever skin is tighter and has no fat layer beneath; go for colors that are darker than your skin tone; choose a location on your body which is relatively easy maintenance & tans less; take someone with you to hold your hand as a moral support in case it pains more,or if you fear needles like me!!!
The prices start from Rs.1500 for a black tattoo and Rs.2500 for a colored one. But guess what, if you're a student carrying a college ID, you'd get a 20% off!!!! What was your first tattoo - share with a comment here or on FB!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Remember my quite, off beat post on Jan 1 2o13??? So would it be something unique for this New Years too??? Read on to find out.....

Well, the saree is special to me. I saw it at an exhibition, I loved it, but then I thought I'm not a regular saree wearer, so didn't buy it. I loved it color combo. The blue green combo with 4 horizontal, subtle, color blocked sections was so mesmerizing for me. After coming back home, all day I was blabbering about this saree to mom and she said "Go back and get that saree. Stop eating my head!!!". Err.... next day, I travelled about 30km up and 30km down just to get this saree!!!! Well, I love it.......... Its so breezy and light, and I loved the way it flew in the wind when we were taking this shoot.... :)
I got that black beaded necklace from Trishla EMart. Its called a Mangalsutra. Trishla E Mart is a new online store based in Chennai, India. They deal majorly with knits - T-shirts, sleepwear, innerwear, active wear etc for both men and women and also some jewelry. The garments, mostly, are of various Indian brands. I totally loved their jewelry section that has a wide variety of beautiful and exquisite Indian jewelry, esp. their anklets are awesome. They have a very good variety of Mangalsutra as well! I loved this one I'm wearing, esp., coz of its asymmetrical design.
So, what's the surprise part??? If you were an Indian you would have figured it out with my maang sindoor and mangalsutra.... Maang sindoor is the red colored powder application at the central parting of hair, atop forehead. Mangalsutra is the black beads necklace.... Well.......... these are symbols of a married woman...... Yup, I'M MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
