Saukhyam Cloth Pads - A Review

Here comes the review of the 2nd Indian brand of cloth pads that I tried - Saukhyam. This is handmade by the women in the villages of India. This is an initiative by Amrita SeRVe, a NGO under Mata Amritanandhamayi.
This is special in 2 aspects. One, unlike any of the earlier brands that I tried, this one comes in 2 pieces - the outer shell that has the snap and PUL layer and the inner soaker. Two, this is the first ever cloth pad that's made of banana fiber. When I heard its made of banana fiber I thought, its made of a fabric woven with banana fiber..... but no, see for yourself what they mean by banana fiber. It is literally the fiber itself sandwiched between 2 layers of cotton fabric!
It comes in 3 variants - day pad with 2 fold insert, day pad with 3 fold insert and night pad. The best was definitely the night pad. It was *cm long and * cm wide. As always, with cloth pads, it's presence was felt, esp., because of its size and thickness. However the comfort factor, when compared to the irritation of disposables, is totally worth it. It actually withstands all night and more! The length is perfect to prevent accidental leaks on the bedsheet.
The day pad with 3 fold insert is very good as a regular day pad. On a medium flow day it works good for 4-5 hrs. The 3 fold means, its 6 layers of fabric plus 3 layers of banana fiber and it withstands well. The moisture spreads relatively well and the thickness handles gushes as well. The 2 fold insert serves almost as a pantyliner or on very light days. Though its length suggests to be used as a day pad, the 2 fold thickness gives up on gushes, making it to leak if worn on a medium or heavy day. But on a light day, the 2 layer is pretty thin and is pretty good.
The brand has a Banana Fiber Super Pack which has 3 day shells with 3 of 2 fold inserts, 2 of 3 fold inserts and 1 night shell & insert, all at a pretty good value for money. This would suffice perfectly if washing is done everyday. You might need 2 or 3 of these packs if you want to wash it all together at the end of the period.
P.S: The products were gifted by the brands for reviewing purpose, however the opinions are of my own experience and are this post does not to advertise the products.
